United Nations Model it´s the simulation of the United Nations Organization system in which students from middle school trough university level participate. This methodology took place for the first time in the University of Harvard on 1948. In a United Nations Model, students get to represent the diplomats from different countries, so they need to prepare themselves on different subjects like culture, interior and exterior policy, economy and society to discuss and solve real topics of the UNO. These are some of the reasons why the UN Model is an educational and cultural event, that also helps the growth and knowledge of the students, making easier the talking and discussing skills that are important for life.

The United Nations Models helps the students to develop their persuasion techniques, negotiation, writing and speaking, in an environment of tolerance and respect for diversity. It also helps the participants to realize that the best way to solve conflicts is through dialogue and negotiation without violence. The most common committees are: General Assembly, Security, Economic and Social Council. The choice of topics will depend on the world today. The success on a United Nations Model depends of the preparation and research of the topics. Another important fact is that the students most assume the role of diplomats from different countries. At the end there has to be a global evaluation of this experience. A simple way to understand the value of this activity is to read the reflection of an African young girl when she finished her participation on a United Nations Model that took place in New York : “I´ve lived one of the most amazing experiences in my life… now I feel citizen of the world.”
